Emlyn holds Master of Science Degree in Finance from Kenyatta University; Bachelor of Commerce (Banking and Finance) from Egerton University; and Certified Public Accountant (CPA). He is a qualified Investment Analysis being a member of the Institute of Certified Investment and Financial Analyst (ICIFA).

He has a wide experience in Investment having worked for Banks, Insurance companies and academic institutions. He is the Director, Strategic Financial Innovations and Investments. Emlyn is also the Chairperson for Strategy, Finance and Investment Committee

While working as part of a research team at Suntra Investment Bank, I created financial risk models that assisted in stress testing of listed company’s financial health. I also researched on and developed ALM models that aided in the management of portfolio risks and enhanced the value of stocks and bonds in the portfolio.

While at Institute of Certified Investment & Financial Analysts (ICIFA), He aided in the drafting of the Investment and Financial Analysts (IFA) Act No. 13 which establishes a legal Secretariat for Institute. Further, I abetted in the development of registration guidelines and bylaws for members of ICIFA.

Mr. James gained financial-modeling skills from Real Insurance (BRITAM) which enhanced the management of the company’s claims coverage ratio and more importantly the cash flow by practicing effective credit control skills in line with the company’s credit policy. Further, He assisted in the enhancement of the existing framework of the company’s investment policy to effectively diversify and rebalance the company’s portfolio by adding investment options like structured bonds, Commercial Paper and Corporate Bonds from the secondary market to take advantages of liquidity and cash flow matching in the event a major claim payment ensues.

He was selected to join a taskforce to research on and review the Kenya Accountants and Secretaries National Examinations Board (KASNEB’s) Certified Investment and Financial Analysts syllabus (CIFA) in March 2012, September 2014 and October 2016 in the finance related areas which were great successes. I have also been called upon to review the M.Sc. Finance Curriculum of Kenyatta University which is now complete awaiting Senate approval. Mr. James is a full Member of the Registration, Membership, Publicity and Advocacy Committees of ICIFA as well as an Associate Member the Association of Business Executives which is based in the UK.
